LOS ANGELES — At least three shops are contending for Gateway Computers’$250 million media planning and buying business, according to sources. The quartet includes incumbent Universal McCann, New York; Media Planning, New York; and Initiative Media North America here. The client was unavailable for comment.

Gateway launched its media review in late February as it was winding down its creative search. The San Diego-based computer marketer decided to move its creative in-house, but kept the media search ongoing.
