LONDON – Leagas Delaney stunned the U.K. ad industry by resigning its $31-million Nationwide account this week after the building society asked it to repitch as part of a marketing review. The agency’s managing director, Brian Astley, said he was flummoxed by Nationwide’s actions. ‘We cannot understand or accept why we should be rewarded for all our work with the prospect of a review,’ he said. But some consolation was provided when British Gas handed Leagas a high-profile new corporate account, fending off the former nationalized industry’s critics.
