WASHINGTON Lachlan Murdoch said today he would resign as deputy chief executive officer of News Corp., effective Aug. 31. He will remain a director and continue to advise the company in a number of areas.

Son of chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan, 33, has decided to return home to Australia with his wife Sarah and new son, Kalan.

“I am excited about my continued involvement with the company in a different role,” said Lachlan Murdoch, in a statement.
