NEW YORK Second-quarter revenue for Knight Ridder Digital rose nearly 51 percent to $29 million from $19.3 million in the same period a year earlier.

The Knight Ridder Internet unit, which develops and manages the newspaper publisher’s Web sites including the Akron Beacon Journal‘s Ohio.com and the Lexington Herald-Leader‘s Kentucky.com, posted Q2 operating income of $9.7 million, versus $3.4 million in the year-ago quarter.

The results were released as a part of Knight Ridder’s second-quarter earnings report.
