NEW YORK — Philip Knight, co-founder of Nike, Inc., has become the majority shareholder of Vinton Studios, the Portland, Ore.-based animation shop best known for its Claymation stop-motion process.

Knight will join Vinton’s board of directors, but will not be a member of the company’s management team or involved with daily decision making. Knight’s investment comes as Vinton begins work on its first feature film later this year.
