BOSTON Karen Kaplan, president of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos' headquarters office here, today was named president of the agency's national network, which includes operations in New York, Miami and Greenville, S.C.

"Karen is integral to the heart and soul of Hill, Holliday," said Mike Sheehan, CEO at the Interpublic Group agency, who credited Kaplan with helping to guide the agency's recent growth. Sheehan had held the title of network president.

After several years of mediocre performances, the agency has been on a year-long winning streak that includes new business gains from AOL, Bank of America, Novartis, Rockport and Toys R Us. Hill, Holliday's revenue and billings each improved about 15 percent last year to $180 million and $1.2 billion, respectively.

Kaplan joined 25 years ago as a receptionist. She rose through the ranks until 1999, when she was named evp and group account director, helming key clients like Fleet and John Hancock. She was named managing director in 2001 and has been president in Boston for the past five years.

Of late, as co-founder and former CEO Jack Connors played less of a role in day-to-day agency management, Kaplan and Sheehan have been the shop's guiding forces.
