Mark Kamen, chief creative officer at Saatchi & Saatchi Collaborative Marketing, has been promoted to evp, general manager—the top post at the New York operation.
Kamen, 52, succeeds Marge Somers, 49, who left recently to pursue an art career. Kamen will steer creative plans until he selects a new chief creative officer next year, said Mel Korn, CEO of collaborative marketing for parent company Publicis Groupe S.A.
Collaborative Marketing, a division of Saatchi & Saatchi, finds retail partners for packaged-goods companies, such as Procter & Gamble and General Mills, to co-market products in stores. This often involves special displays, but sometimes entails product placement.
Kamen joined the unit in 1992, when it was known as GMG Marketing Services in Philadelphia. (Saat chi purchased the company in 1998 and renamed it Saatchi & Saatchi Co-Marketing Services—a name that later evolved to reflect its operating philosophy.)
Kamen, a writer who previously held creative posts at Grey and the former Lintas/SSC&B, was chosen to lead Collaborative Mar keting because he's a "great strategist" who's both creative and business-minded, Korn said. Asked to describe the business, Kamen said, "We build the brands in the store at the same time we build the store's brand."
Korn, 72, assumed his global role in the spring. His mission: Expand the collaborative-marketing oper ation at Saatchi and sister shops Publicis Dialog and Nelson Communications. For example, he envisions Saatchi extending its service to cli ents in Canada and Brazil.
Korn and his staff of four also work to generate new business. Kamen described Korn as "my safety net," noting, "He's just down the hall."
