CHICAGO — J. Walter Thompson laid off 14 staffers at its office here, or 7 percent of its work force, an agency representative said.

The layoffs were across all disciplines, and a reflection of continued weak economic conditions, the representative said.

The layoffs come during the same week JWT Chicago president Brian Heffernan resigned under pressure. The office has suffered a new business slowdown and is struggling with major clients Kraft Foods and Miller Brewing.
