BOSTON A judge in East Boston District Court at a hearing on Friday dismissed criminal charges against industry consultant Skip Pile based on the recomendation of the state’s probation department, according to court documents.

Pile, 55, chairman of communications consultancy Pile and Co. in Boston, was arrested in February at Logan International Airport and charged with possessing and transporting a “hoax device” after a security screener found an inert, World War II-era grenade in his laptop computer case during an X-ray search.
