The economy may soon improve, but that doesn't mean workers will start sending out their résumés. Sixty-five percent of 630 employees surveyed by Accountemps, a temporary-staffing service in Menlo Park, Calif., indicated that they are not likely to switch jobs in the next six months. "People would rather stay with a place that's weathered the bad economy than take a chance on someplace new," says Bill Hayes, district president of Accountemps' Boston office. Even so, he cautions companies to focus on employee retention. "Employees who feel valued in the tough times are loyal. The costs are enormous when it comes to replacing seasoned employees who leave in boom times." —DAVID KAPLAN
