Mullen has brought aboard Sam Rand as evp, group director; he will oversee a mix of consumer and business-to-business accounts at the Interpublic Group shop.

Rand becomes one of three executives at the Wenham, Mass.-based agency to hold the evp, group director title, joining George Rogers and Jim Hartrich. That tier of management reports to Mullen CEO
Joe Grimaldi.

Rand will oversee key accounts such as Stop & Shop, Whirlpool's Gladiator GarageWorks division, MRO Software and the Four Seasons hotel chain. He will also take part in new-business efforts.
Rand takes over some duties from Jeff Winsper, who left this fall for personal reasons after only a few months with the agency.

Grimaldi and Rand were introduced by John Fitzgerald, president of Mullen's Winston-Salem, N.C., office. Fitzgerald and Rand had worked together at Omnicom Group's Ketchum Communications in the mid-1980s.
Rand's experience running accounts, leading teams of people and bringing in business, as well as his significant b-to-b experience, makes him a good fit for Mullen, Grimaldi said.

During stints as an evp of Ketchum in New York and as president of its Philadelphia operations, Rand led accounts such as Pizza Hut, Dupont, PNC Corp. and Bell Atlantic.

Most recently, Rand was evp of sales, marketing and client services at Event411, a Marina del Rey, Calif., online meeting-management and event-planning portal.
