IQ News: Game Site iWin Debuts With Unusual Prizes

Following a month-long soft-launch period, iwin.com, an incentive-based online games and entertainment Web site, officially will open its virtual doors to consumers today. According to iwin.com president Dale Hopkins, the site will distinguish itself from other online gaming destinations by offering unique Hollywood- and entertainment-related prizes, in addition to luxury merchandise and cash giveaways.
The Santa Monica, Calif.-based iwin.com will feature online games targeting the casual gamer, with diversions that range from interactive trivia about celebrities to Las Vegas-style card games. Prizes will include such unusual offerings as walk-on roles on TV shows or the opportunity to work as a roadie for major bands, such as Hole.
"Iwin.com's management team brings years of relationships with Hollywood that [set it apart] from other online gaming companies," said Hopkins.
Indeed, prior to arriving at iwin.com in September, Hopkins served as senior vice president, marketing, at E! Entertainment Television for seven years, and was instrumental in the creation and launch of E! Online.
Like other online gaming sites that offer prizes to players, iwin.com gives users points called icoins for participating in games. Icoins can be redeemed for a variety of prizes.
The site plans to generate revenue through advertising. n
