Zapata Calls It Quits
Zapata Corp., Houston, Texas, decided that due to an unstable stock market it is shelving its plan to buy up Web sites, which it was to finance through an initial public offering next year. It has terminated its letters of agreement to purchase 31 Web publications including Attitude Network and GoCollege. For now, it will continue to fund Word and Charged.
Viant Wins Radio Shack
After a review involving 12 new media shops, Viant, Boston, has won an online creative, marketing and technology-heavy account from Radio Shack, Fort Worth, Texas, which is estimated to grow as high as $10 million.
