Layoffs Take iVillage





iVillage, New York, laid off 10 percent of its workforce last week as it restructured its commerce division. Candice Carpenter, chief executive, said the company would announce several commerce partnerships within six weeks. ‘We have honed our strategy. We will focus on certain products with certain partners,’ she said. Carpenter added that iVillage posted an increase in revenues in the first quarter over fourth quarter 1996 and its sites surpassed 1 million visits per month in January.
