In the future, will everyone be in an iPod ad? The latest evidence first emerged last Tuesday night, as Bono and U2 emerged in quasi-silhouette against green, yellow, purple and blue backgrounds, playing their new single, “Vertigo,” in an Apple-sanctioned 30-second spot.

Apple and TBWA\Chiat\Day weren’t talking, but this appears to be the first time a particular piece of music is explicitly part of the sell—before the familiar “iPod + iTunes” closer comes the frame “Vertigo by U2,” a three-word pitch for the single.
