NEW YORK -- Gateway Computers has awarded its $250 million media buying and planning business to Initiative Media North America, Los Angeles, sources said.

Initiative beat out Media Planning, New York, and its Interpublic Group of Cos. sister media network Universal McCann, New York, which was also the incumbent.

Initiative referred all calls to Gateway, and a Gateway spokesman said that the company had not made an official decision but would be announcing its selection later this week.

Gateway launched the media review in February. The company has decided to keep its creative business in-house.
