IHT To Sell Page One Ads

PARIS -- The International Herald Tribune (IHT) said Thursday it will start placing advertisements on its front page, the first time in the newspaper's 114-year history.
The plan is part of the evolution of IHT since the recent appointment of David Ignatius as the newspaper's executive editor, the IHT said in a statement.

"The new position will meet the needs of our advertisers who do business with us because they know they can reach our highly influential, decision-making and opinion-forming readers in an effective way and this will be enhanced by this new position," said Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, vice president and commercial director.

A redesign of the newspaper, with new visual and graphic elements, will be completed later this year, the statement said.

Founded in Paris in 1887, the IHT is jointly owned by The New York Times and The Washington Post and is distributed in 180 countries.
