NEW YORK ICrossing has bolstered its paid-search capabilities with the acquisition of Newgate Internet.

The deal brings the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based agency several retail-focused clients, including Williams-Sonoma, Gap and Lego. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

San Fransisco-based Newgate focuses on running search ad campaigns for clients, while iCrossing has more expertise in search optimization, making client Web sites more easily found (and highly ranked) by Google, Yahoo and other search engines.

“They’ve established clear leadership in the paid-search area, especially retail,” said Jeff Herzog, iCrossing’s CEO.
