LOS ANGELES -- Hyundai Motor America has narrowed the search for an agency to handle creative on its $160 million national account to five shops, according to Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif., which is leading the review.

They are: Foote, Cone & Belding in Irvine and San Francisco; Publicis & Hal Riney in San Francisco; Publicis in the West, Seattle; The Richards Group in Dallas and the incumbent, Bates USA West in Irvine, Calif..

Shops not advancing include Grey in Los Angeles; Hill, Holliday in San Francisco; Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.; Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis; The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.

Finalists are expected to meet with the Fountain Valley, Calif. client the week of March 18 for work sessions. Presentations will be held in early April, with a decision by the end of April.

Ellis brings years of experience in the cosmetics category. She worked at McCann-Erickson from 1997 to 2000 on the L'Oreal account, creating domestic and international advertising for the client's cosmetics, haircolor and haircare lines. She has also helped create advertising for Avon while at N.W. Ayer in New York, and has worked on the client side at EstEe Lauder, Cignal, and Webster Clothes.

"Torero," a new book for fashion photographer Ruven Afanador, includes her design input, and she has also worked on art and design projects with such artists as Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Rauschenberg.

Deutsch won the creative portion of Revlon's Almay brand and Revlon's media in 2001. Two months ago, the client consolidated Revlon creative at the agency.
