Odd Riddle Was Listening To The David Brudnoy Show on WBZ radio last year when a segment featuring the American Anti-Slavery Group's Charles Jacobs stopped him cold.
"I was just blown away that slavery existed," recounted Riddle, a creative director at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos. "So a couple of days later, I called [Jacobs] up because I thought there was something we could do for him."
The result of that conversation is a public service campaign unveiled last week seeking attention for the estimated 27 million people living in bondage worldwide.
Print ads are designed to resemble Civil War-era posters and look to evoke the same disbelief that Riddle originally felt. "It's not unusual to own a slave in many parts of the world," reads one.
The organization's practice of raising money to buy slaves has met with some controversy, however. Opponents argue that it only increases demand.
