Alltel, Nextel Agency Assessments Progress
BOSTON—Consultants with Rojek Cutcher Group are sifting through profiles of "dozens" of agencies nationwide and expects this week or next to select five or six contenders to complete the review field for the creative portion of Alltel's $70 million account, sources said. Interpublic Group's The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., will defend. Separately, rival telecom Nextel and consulting company Roth Associates are at least a month away from completing their assessment of the client's communications needs, sources said. Executives from incumbent Mullen, an IPG shop in Wenham, Mass., have in the past week become involved in the process. It remains unclear if some or all of Nextel's $150-200 million account will be placed into review.
PLM Contacts Trio of Southeast Shops
ATLANTA—PLM, a division of computer services giant EDS, is talking to four agencies about its $4-5 million advertising account, sources said. Adworks in Washington, D.C., Cole Henderson Drake of Atlanta and Loeffler Ketchum Mountjoy in Charlotte, N.C., have received invitations to participate in the review for the business-to-business account. Sources said Minneapolis-basedFallon, which handles corporate brand advertising for EDS of Plano, Texas, has not decided if it will participate. A decision is expected later this month. PLM is located in Milford, Ohio.
Borenstein Adds Software, Financial Clients
ATLANTA—The Borenstein Group has added three new clients. The Fairfax, Va., shop will develop print ads for crosstown firm CR Software in trade magazines such as Credit and Collection Risk and Recovery Adviser. Work for Marlin Holdings, a debt management services company in New York, will appear in Electric Light and Power, Energy Customer Management and Utility Business. Efforts for software supplier InfinityQS International in Manassas, Va., will run in Quality Digest, Quality Progress and Manufactura. Billings are undisclosed.
Davidandgoliath Wins Bacardi Assignment
LOS ANGELES —Barcardi USA's rum division has selected davidandgoliath here for a creative branding assignment following a review, the agency said. Sources said the review included New York's McCann-Erickson and Ogilvy & Mather, BBDO in Chicago and Momentum of St. Louis, which has worked for Barcardi in the past. The $15 million assignment primarily involves cable television ads, sources said. The Miami-based distributor has relied on print ads created by Averett, Free & Ginsberg of New York. Universal McCann retains media planning and buying duties.
Movielink Selects McCann-Erickson
LOS ANGELES—An online movie service has tapped Interpublic Group's McCann-Erickson to handle its ad account. Movielink, which launched Nov. 11 in Santa Monica, Calif., hired the Los Angeles agency following a review. Client and agency officials declined to disclose billings, which sources estimate at $5-10 million. Work will include brand strategy and online and traditional advertising, as well as media buying and planning.
