Sun Nears Decision on Creative Project SAN FRANCISCO—As it nears a decision on a creative project, Sun Microsystems is set to meet with Fallon, Minneapolis, and JWT & Tonic, San Francisco, this week after meeting with Leagas Delaney, San Francisco, last week, sources said. The budget was undisclosed. Sun has moved pieces of its account from incumbent JWT & Tonic in recent weeks. Sources have said the winner of this project may be positioned to land the $100 million account. Riney Wins North Face SAN FRANCISCO—Publicis & Hal Riney here has won the $3-5 million North Face account, the client confirmed. The other finalists were Venables, Bell & Partners and Black Rocket/Euro RSCG, both in San Francisco, Publicis in the West and DDB, both in Seattle, and Two by Four in Chicago. Work is expected to break next March. Incumbent Blazing Paradigm, which recently declared bankruptcy and reorganized as Banjo Strategic Entertainment, dropped out of the review. Leagas Breaks First Work for Virgin Mobile SAN FRANCISCO—Virgin Mobile USA broke its first ad campaign last week. Initial work, via Leagas Delaney, San Francisco, is airing on MTV, MTV2 and VH1. It consists of four 60-second spots targeting 15-30-year-olds. Spending was undisclosed. Virgin spends roughly $40 million annually on ads, sources said. Toyota Scion in Promo With Record Labels LOS ANGELES—Scion, the youth-oriented model from Toyota Motor Sales USA, has teamed with record labels, party promoters and other influencers to bow its brand. Scion national manager Brian Bolain said using summer music, art and film events in Los Angeles and San Francisco is an "under-the-radar approach" to reaching its audience. The first two Scion models will launch in June 2003. Attik in San Francisco is Scion's ad agency. Accounts RoundupReal-estate developer Arvida, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has sent questionnaires for its estimated $5 million account to a dozen shops, including InterCommunications, Newport Beach, Calif., Miles Real Estate Development Group, Denver, WestWayne, Tampa, Fla., Sawyer Riley Compton, Atlanta, The Richards Group, Dallas, Lewis Communications, Birmingham, Ala., Turkel Schwartz & Partners, Miami, Peter A. Mayer Advertising, New Orleans, The Godwin Group, Jackson, Miss., and Henderson Advertising, Greenville, S.C. ... The T&O Group in Irvine, Calif., won the estimated $3-5 million account for Kinecta Federal Credit Union, Manhattan Beach, Calif., following a review. Onward and Upward Horizon Media in Los Angeles hired account director Priscilla Hoe, planning director Gordon Agan, broadcast group manager Angela Mailloux and account supervisor Michaela Krams to work on its new $80 million Jack in the Box account. Lee Gallagher joined as group media planning supervisor for Horizon's Western region. ... Tracey Clanton joined Campbell-Ewald's CE Retail division in Los Angeles as svp, management supervisor, overseeing Chevrolet's local marketing groups in the Western region.
