Gillette Readies Product Intros
BOSTON—Gillette in the spring will launch an enhanced version of its Mach 3 shaver and an expanded line of men's grooming products. The line is to be backed by a multimedia ad push that will break as products hit the shelves in April. Lead agency BBDO, New York, is providing support with TV, print and other mass media. Gillette spent $175 million on ads last year and more than $100 million through July 2001, according to CMR. The new Mach 3 Turbo features a redesigned handle and triple-blade system; the Gillette series includes reformulated shave gels, foams, splashes and deodorants. This marks the first time in the Boston client's 100-year history that it has simultaneously launched a flagship shaving system and new toiletry products.
CGN Looks Toward Cayman Islands
BOSTON—After a hiatus of several months, the review for the $8-10 million Cayman Islands account is back on track with finalists CGN Marketing & Creative Services in Boston, Work in Richmond, Va., The Zimmerman Agency in Tallahassee, Fla., and New York players DiMassimo Brand Advertising and The Lord Group. Longtime incumbent O'Leary Clarke, of New York, is not defending. Final presentations will take place Nov. 19-20 in the Cayman Islands. Madigan Pratt, Darien, Conn., is overseeing the review process.
Wieden Picks Up JetBlue Work
NEW YORK—Wieden + Kennedy's New York office has been awarded a fourth-quarter media buying and planning assignment from JetBlue Airways, New York, the agency said. Billings are estimated at $2 million for the quarter and will include local broadcast and print in major markets. Out-of-home duties will be handled by MacDonald Media, New York. Creative duties are handled by The Ad Store in New York. The new shops replace Boston's Arnold, which broke with the client this summer.
Frankel to Purchase Creative Alliance
CHICAGO—Frankel & Co. last week agreed to acquire promotions agency Creative Alliance & Marketing Communications. The latter shop, located in Southport, Conn., will be renamed Creative Aim. Terms of the deal with Chicago-based Frankel, a unit of Publicis, were not disclosed.
BOSTON—Victoria Skomial has joined Devine & Pearson as creative services manager. In the newly created position at the shop in Quincy, Mass, Skomial will supervise work flow and manage production on all agency accounts, including Johnson & Johnson, Ocean Spray, Polar Beverages and Thomson Financial. Prior to her tenure at Devine & Pearson, Skomial was senior production/traffic manager for Marketing Drive, Boston. ... Clarke Goward, has fashioned new TeaLuxe tea containers to reflect a pre-World War II feeling of the restaurant as an authentic and retro-classic gathering place. The tea containers and overall look have been incorporated into tea bags, the catalog and in-store point-of-purchase items as well.
