- Health Department Search Narrows to 2
LOS ANGELES--The California Department of Health Services' search for an agency to handle its $45 million anti-smoking account has been narrowed to Dailey & Associates, West Hollywood, Calif., and Ground Zero, Marina Del Rey, Calif. A final decision is expected next week. Incumbent Asher/Gal, Deutsch/LA, DGWB, all Los Angeles, and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, are no longer participating.
- SAG Files Charges Against Bush Campaign
NEW YORK--The Screen Actors Guild filed unfair labor practice charges last week with the National Labor Relations Board against the media consulting firm Stevens & Schriefer. SAG said the firm signed an interim agreement on behalf of the Bush campaign in April and that Bush commercial shoots in July employed nonunion actors. According to SAG's statement, Stevens & Schriefer stonewalled requests for information about the shop's relationship to the Bush campaign, which were needed to determine whether the interim agreement had been violated. Ray Sullivan, a spokesman for the Bush campaign, responded that the commercials in question featured "real people, not actors." He said Stevens & Schriefer was not involved with the shoots. "Neither the Bush campaign nor Maverick Media [the campaign's media company] signed any agreement with SAG or any other actors' union. If Stevens & Schriefer signed any agreement it was not on behalf of the Bush campaign or Maverick Media or for work pertaining to the Bush campaign or Maverick Media."
- TBWA\Chiat\Day to Break New Silvertab Work
SAN FRANCISCO--Silvertab, a modern clothes brand by Levi's, will soon break new work via TBWA\Chiat\Day in San Francisco. The campaign will follow a "Lost but not lost" theme and show three Americans traveling through Morocco. Levi's officials said the ads, breaking this Sunday, are designed to appeal to today's technologically savvy urbanite. The print work will break in numerous magazines. Also, TBWA\C\D's San Francisco office announced that it will design an upcoming ad campaign for S3's Rio Division. S3's Rio Division released the first digital audio player in 1998. Billings were undisclosed.
- RappDigital Hires Interactive Head
DALLAS--Former Modem Media executive Blake Froehlich has joined RappDigital as vice president and director of interactive services. Froehlich, 34, will oversee interactive programs at Rapp Collins/Dallas, RappDigital and Web shop partner Critical Mass in Calgary, Canada. Froelich was previously director of account services at Modem Media and co-founder of its San Francisco office.
- Sirius Loses 2 Marketing Executives
SAN FRANCISCO--Sirius Satellite Radio of New York, which named Goodby Silverstein & Partners its agency of record in June, has lost two marketing executives. Company officials said vp of marketing Terrence Sweeney and svp of marketing Ira Bahr have left. Officials said Goodby is still the agency of record and the account will not go back in review. Ads are expected to break this fall.
