Friendly Moves Account to Laughlin/ConstableCHICAGO—Less than a year after landing at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos' West Coast office, Friendly Ice Cream Corp. last week moved its $20 million account to Laughlin/Constable. The Wilbraham, Mass., chain of about 600 restaurants chose the Chicago shop following a review that included the incumbent, GMO/Hill, Holliday in San Francisco, and Rotter-Kantor in New York. Havas, McKinney Reach Accord ATLANTA—Havas Advertising has reached an agreement to acquire McKinney & Silver in a deal that will likely be announced this week, sources said. Ed Eskandarian, CEO of Havas' Boston-based Arnold worldwide network, led the negotiations, though it was unclear late Friday if McKinney will report directly to Havas or through Eskandarian. Havas likely paid in the $20-25 million range to purchase the Raleigh, N.C., agency from struggling parent marchFirst, sources said. Eskandarian and R. John Cooper, executive vice president of Havas North America, did not return calls. Several weeks ago, Don Maurer, CEO of McKinney, confirmed that talks with Paris-based Havas were taking place. Causemedia Unveils Anti-smoking AdsBOSTON—The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has launched a campaign encouraging minority women to stop or avoid smoking. Two TV spots produced by Causemedia, Watertown, Mass., feature JoAnn Hawkesworth, a Boston woman who recently quit smoking after 30 years. In one, Hawkesworth talks about her son as motivation for quitting; in another, she is shown with an improved voice and attitude shortly after stopping. The ads are part of the DPH's "Keep it Fresh" public awareness campaign and will run through the end of April; radio and outdoor ads will begin in May, according to Causemedia. Causemedia was awarded $3 million for the public outreach effort to reduce smoking-related deaths last year. Arnold, Boston, is the DPH's long-time lead agency. Mark Moll Joins Holland MarkBOSTON—Mark Moll recently came aboard Holland Mark as a senior copywriter reporting to creative directors Rob Stewart and Marty McDonald. In his new position, he will work on all of the Boston agency's accounts, including Earth Footwear, Genzyme, the Boston Foundation for the Arts and Thors Hammer Vodka. Moll was most recently a senior copywriter at the Boston office of Deutsch, where he handled work for Homeruns.com. Previously, Moll held copywriting positions at Mullen and Arnold. Hotline RoundupBOSTON—LevLane Advertising, Bala Cynwyd, Pa., has launched a print, radio and outdoor campaign for Sovereign Bank introducing the theme, "That's why we're here." Slated for Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and southern New England ... The Williams Agency, Cambridge, Mass., and Abrams + LaBrecque Design, have developed a campaign for the City of Cambridge tagged "Express yourself" and designed to promote alternatives to driving.
