Doner Gets Pair of Fila Shoe Assignments
NEW YORK--Fila has assigned project work to Baltimore's W.B. Doner for its next two shoe launches, featuring endorsers Chris Webber of the NBA's Washington Wizards and the WNBA's Nikki McCray. Fila marketing chief Howe Burch is a former Doner executive. A shootout for the launch of the Grant Hill V model in November is expected as soon as Fila cuts down the roster of interested shops to a manageable size.
3 D.C. Shops to Pitch Bell Atlantic Federal
ATLANTA--Bell Atlantic's federal division in Washington, D.C., has invited a trio of D.C. shops to pitch its trade ad account, said Bob Guest, client manager of marketing programs. Incumbent STG Marketing Communications in Fairfax, Va., is among the three, said Guest, who would not identify the others. A decision is expected within a month. The account, which bills nearly $1 million, went into review earlier this year [Adweek, Feb. 2].
FKQ Tests TV Spot for Coffee Client in Philly
ATLANTA--Melitta North America began running a TV spot for its coffee products last week in Philadelphia. FKQ Advertising, in the client's hometown of Clearwater, Fla., created the ad, which depicts a man and woman who meet in a grocery store checkout lane. Through their disparate food selections, the viewer infers the two have nothing in common--until Melitta products bring them together. The six-week flight is supported by a consumer and trade print campaign.
Thompson Dominates Memphis, Tenn., Addys
ATLANTA--At the Addy awards in Memphis, Tenn., Thompson & Co. won best of show in both print and outdoor and 22 Addys. Sossaman Bateman & Associates earned best of show/broadcast and 11 Addys.
Tri-City (Tenn.) Ad Show Names Winners
ATLANTA--The Tri-City Metro Advertising Federation in Johnson City, Tenn., recognized The Tombras Group with best of show/broadcast, Great Scott Design with best of show/print, Creative Energy with 14 Addys and Target Marketing with nine Addys.
Brandon Rules Myrtle Beach, S.C., Contest
ATLANTA--The Coastal Advertising & Marketing Professionals' Addy contest in Myrtle Beach, S.C., presented Brandon Advertising with best of show, best of print and 17 Addys. Best of electronic went to WPDE-TV 15. LHWH Advertising took home 8 Addys.
MGH Advertising in Baltimore was tapped by local NBC affiliate WBAL-TV to handle media buying and public relations after a review of undisclosed shops. Sources estimated the budget at $500,000 to $1 million. . . Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla., signed Spiro & Waites Advertising & Marketing, Fort Myers, Fla., as its agency.
