Bayless/Cronin Set to Win Red Hat
ATLANTA--Red Hat Inc., a developer of Linux-based operating system software and services, is on the verge of naming Bayless/Cronin the winner of its estimated
$20 million advertising account, said sources. The Durham, N.C., company has been on a quiet national search since late summer, but a source familiar with the client said Red Hat chief marketing director Tom Butta had settled on the Atlanta agency. Neither Butta nor agency principals Tim Bayless or Jerry Cronin returned calls by press time.
Black & Decker Puts Arnold on Notice
BOSTON--Black & Decker has called a review for the
$2-3 million account of its DeWalt Power Tools division, handled for several years by Arnold Communications in McLean, Va. Arnold intends to defend, said agency spokesperson Tracy Tierney. Officials at the client's headquarters in Towson, Md., did not return calls. Shops in the Southeast, New England and the New York-area are being contacted, said a source.
LHC, Publicis Dallas in Garden Brawl
DALLAS--Garden Ridge, a home decor retailer, held a shootout Friday between Long Haymes Carr and Publicis Dallas for its estimated $15 million account, according to sources. Neither LHC in Winston-Salem, N.C., nor Publicis returned calls for comment. Rich Klein, a principal at incumbent Fogarty Klein & Partners in Houston, did not return phone calls by press time. Sources said the review is being conducted by New York search consultant Alyson Henning.
Match Is on High-Tech Mission for Georgia
ATLANTA--Match has teamed with public relations firm Manning Selvage & Lee and online specialist Ant Farm Interactive to win the $1.5 million Georgia Yamacraw Mission account. The three Atlanta companies will craft a program to recruit high-tech firms and talent to Georgia, specifically in the broadband communications field.
McKinney Qualifies for ImproveNet Review
LOS ANGELES--ImproveNet has narrowed to six shops in the review for its estimated $20 million account. BBDO West, San Francisco; USWeb/CKS, Cupertino, Calif., with McKinney & Silver, Raleigh, N.C.; Campbell-Ewald, Detroit; Leo Burnett, Chicago; Cramer-Krasselt, Chicago; and Marc Advertising, Pittsburgh, are vying for the business of the Redwood City, Calif.-based company. Select Resources International, Los Angeles, is the consultant. The previous agency was Left Field, San Francisco. All finalists have experience in the home improvement category. Each contender will be given an assignment. A decision is expected by the end of the year.
