NationsBank Starts Agency Search
DALLAS--The pending merger of NationsBank and Bank of America has opened a review of roster and nonroster shops for what insiders believe will be a consolidated $85 million account. Sources said incumbents Temerlin McClain, Deutsch and GSD&M, as well as other undisclosed shops, began receiving questionnaires late last week. Client and agency executives declined to comment. Temerlin, Irving, Texas, is agency of record for NationsBank. Deutsch, New York and Marina del Rey, Calif., handles creative work and print media buying for BofA. GSD&M, Austin, Texas, handles BofA's broadcast buying. The merger, which will create the nation's largest bank, is expected to close Oct. 1.
Snap Seeks Agency, Will Break Promo Campaign
LOS ANGELES--Internet portal service provider Snap, San Francisco, a joint venture of NBC and CNET, is conducting a search for an agency of record. Billings were not disclosed. Snap will break a brand awareness promotional campaign the week of July 27 on NBC using the tag "Don't suffer from information overload. Snap! Out of it! Search the Internet with Snap.com today!"
Reviews Roundup ... Mazda Seeks Web Shop
Mazda North American Operations in Irvine, Calif., is reviewing agencies for an assignment that will include the development of a new Web site for the automaker, sources said. Mazda officials could not be reached for comment. W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich., won Mazda's general ad account last October, but is not believed to be involved in the Web review. ... Foxwoods Casino Resort in Ledyard, Conn., is holding a review for the creative portion of its account, sources said. The client is moving its estimated $10 million in media buying duties from Western International Media, Los Angeles to Horizon Media, New York, sources said. The client did not return calls. It was unknown if creative incumbent Weller O'Sullivan, Los Angeles, is participating.
Grier, Others On Board for Levi's
LOS ANGELES--TBWA Chiat/Day rolled out a new series of billboards in its "Our Models" campaign for Levi's jeans last week. The work from the Venice, Calif., agency features actress Pam Grier, boxer Oscar De La Hoya and punk rockers The Sex Pistols under the tagline, "Our models can beat up their models."
Saatchi & Saatchi Forms Alliance
LOS ANGELES--Saatchi & Saatchi here has formed a "strategic partnership" with Internet broadcaster L.A. Live. The agency's Saatchi Entertainment unit will work on the deal.
