Bluelight.com to Consider Agencies
CHICAGO--Bluelight.com, the recently announced Internet joint venture between Kmart Corp. and Yahoo!, will likely name an advertising agency by the end of the first quarter, said Fran Maier, the venture's director of marketing. Though a full-scale review is unlikely to begin until early January, Kmart's lead advertising agency, Campbell Mithun Esty, in Minneapolis, and Yahoo!'s agency, Black Rocket, San Francisco, will likely be included, Maier said. Billings for the project were undisclosed.
2 Retailers Click With Internet
CHICAGO--Two retailers, Wal-Mart Stores and Best Buy Co., last week announced Internet joint ventures with America Online and Microsoft Corp, respectively. Advertising plans for those enterprises were unknown.
Serta to Rest at Doner
CHICAGO--Serta Corp. is expected to award its $20 million account to Doner, sources said. The Lisle, Ill.,-based mattress maker split with Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, in June. Company and agency officials declined comment. Contenders for the business included Grey Advertising in New York and Chicago shops DDB and Cramer-Krasselt. Doner is based in Southfield, Mich.
Nuveen to Play on Super Bowl
CHICAGO--Fallon McElligott will break its first brand-oriented work for the John Nuveen Co. in a 60-second spot set to air during the Super Bowl. Creative details of the spot were unavailable, but company executives promised it will be a "dramatic and inspiring attention-getting campaign." They said the company is considering appearing more than once during the event. The Minneapolis shop won the Chicago-based investment bank's account in 1998 using the theme "Wisdom." The tagline for the new campaign, which will also include print advertising, was not known.
BE&P Enlists DLC for Payless Hispanic
CHICAGO--Barkley Evergreen & Partners has enlisted DLC Integrated Marketing to aid in Hispanic marketing efforts for Payless ShoeSource. The Miami-based DLC will work with the Kansas City, Mo., agency on creative direction for the U.S. Hispanic and Puerto Rican
markets. Payless, a Topeka, Kan., company, handed creative and media planning duties on the $80 million account to BE&P in early December.
Martin/Williams Scores a Victory
CHICAGO--Polaris Corp. awarded its $2-3 million Victory Motorcycles account to Martin/Williams. The Minneapolis agency already handles advertising for the Plymouth, Minn., company's snowmobiles and personal watercraft. Victory's account had previously been
handled by Associates & Stahl in Minneapolis.
Kirshenbaum to Be Sol Agency
NEW YORK--Labatt USA is expected to tap Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners to handle its $10-12 million advertising account for Sol Beer, sources said. The New York agency prevailed over finalists Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis and Earle Palmer Brown, New York, in a review
