5 Finalists in Pursuit of Porsche Cars
NEW YORK--The pitch assignment for the five finalists named last week for the creative portion of Porsche Cars North America's estimated $15 million account is how the car maker should launch and position its first sport utility vehicle, according to client executives. The finalists--The Richards Group, Dallas; Leagas Delaney, San Francisco; Kowloon Wholesale Seafood Co., Santa Monica, Calif.; Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis; and WestWayne, Atlanta--are scheduled to make strategic presentations Feb. 8-9. Creative Media, New York, will continue to handle media planning and buying. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, split with the client several months ago.
Ackerman McQueen Taps D.C. Veteran
DALLAS--Ackerman McQueen, Oklahoma City, has hired Republican strategist Randy Scheunemann as president of its Washington, D.C., public relations arm, The Mercury Group. Scheunemann, senior advisor to both former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan., and Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., will direct strategies for Mercury's growing client base in the political arena. Former Mercury president Tony Makris was promoted to executive vice president at AM's Tulsa, Okla., office.
Focus Agency Introduces Shell Energy Ads
DALLAS--The Focus Agency in Dallas has launched its first campaign for Shell Energy Services of Houston since landing the account in June. The estimated $2 million television, print and outdoor effort targets consumers in Atlanta and surrounding areas. Georgia became the first state to deregulate its natural gas industry last month. The campaign employs the tagline, "Natural gas is invisible. The company that provides it shouldn't be."
Zubi Advertising Makes the Grade for Mobil
ATLANTA--Zubi Advertising in Miami has been named Hispanic agency of record for Mobil. The shop will provide advertising and event communications for Hispanic marketing efforts. Billings are estimated at $5 million. Duties will include advertising for Mobil's 7,000-plus retail locations and gasoline and oil products, as well as community outreach programs. Incumbent Ornelas & Associates, Dallas, did not pitch. DDB Needham, New York, is Mobil's general market shop.
BBDO Houston Promotes Scheffler to VP
DALLAS--Management supervisor Rich Scheffler has progressed to a vice presidency at BBDO Houston, where he handles national brand advertising for the Texaco/Havoline account. He has been with BBDO since 1997 after serving as ad manager for Pennzoil Products Co. in North and South America.
