A Burnieika Weighs Options at Devine & Pearson BOSTON--After shuttering two agencies in little more than a month, Joe Burnieika, a partner in recently defunct shops McKay Communications and Harborside Communications, is currently working for himself out of Devine & Pearson's offices in Quincy, Mass. He continues to handle public relations projects for Wal-Mart, Global Digital Media and CyberRebate. Another former McKay employee, Colleen Turner, has already taken a post as an account supervisor at Devine, though Burnieika said no decision has been made concerning his joining the firm. Crippled by debt, McKay, Boston, folded in April. Burnieika immediately launched Harborside with several former McKay clients and employees, but after a few weeks in operation he pulled the plug on that shop as well [Adweek, May 15]. A Hook Adds to Media Services Group BOSTON--Hook Media added two principals to its media services group: Laura Mete Frizzell and Barry Lowenthal. Frizzell joins the Boston agency from Deutsch, New York, where she launched the media department within the agency's interactive division, iDeutsch, and grew the division to $11 million in billings. Lowenthal was formerly a partner and media director at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York, where he directed a media department with billings over $450 million. A CTW Goes On Air With Review DALLAS--Children's Television Workshop, creator of Sesame Street, is looking for an agency to help move it beyond its identification with the more than 30-year-old show. In conjunction with Washington, D.C., consultancy Noral Group International, CTW of New York is currently reviewing eight agencies, some of which are believed to be located in New England, for its $4-5 million corporate branding account. Most recently, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in New York handled the launch of Dragon Tales. A Donovan Group Sports Brine Account BOSTON--Donovan Group has been tapped for a seven-figure national branding campaign for sporting goods company Brine. The assignment from the Milford, Mass., client will include television, radio and print advertising, design, trade show support and point-of-purchase sales support from the agency in Northborough, Mass. A Toysmart.com Logs Off BOSTON--Walt Disney Co.'s Toysmart.com has ceased operations. The Waltham, Mass., company had worked with Arnold Communications, Boston, since March 1999 and spent roughly $21 million on a series of TV, radio and print advertising touting its "good toys" message. That campaign, however, apparently failed to drive cyber-shoppers to the site. A NetZero Acquires Simpli.com BOSTON--NetZero, which provides advertising and commerce-supported Internet access, acquired targeted marketing infrastructure and search technology company Simpli.com, Providence, R.I. The stock-and-cash transaction is valued at $23.5 million and is expected to be completed during the third quarter
