5 Finalists in Pursuit of Porsche Cars
ATLANTA--The assignment for the five shops named as finalists last week in the review for Porsche Cars North America's $15 million account is how the car maker should position its first sport utility vehicle, said client executives. The finalists, WestWayne, Atlanta; The Richards Group, Dallas; Leagas Delaney, San Francisco; Kowloon Wholesale Seafood Co., Santa Monica, Calif.; and Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, are set to make strategic pitches Feb. 8-9, said Joel Ewanick, general manager of marketing for the Atlanta-based firm, which screened over 150 agency applicants. Creative Media, New York, will continue to handle media planning and buying. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, split with the client several months ago.
JWT Breaks TV Spot for Marines in New York
ATLANTA--The U. S. Marine Corps releases its first new television spot in more than three years in New York's Times Square this Tuesday. The ad was created by the Atlanta office of J. Walter Thompson, which has held the business for 52 years. In addition to the new spot, the agency has crafted print, direct mail, a CD-ROM, event marketing and Internet ommunications.
First Union Adds Erwin-Penland as Second Shop
ATLANTA--After a three-month search that was narrowed to three agencies, First Union Corp. has designated Erwin-Penland in Greenville, S.C., as its second ad agency. The shop will work with the bank's lead agency, Publicis Hal Riney & Partners, San Francisco. Erwin will oversee collateral, merchandising and tactical marketing communications. Sources estimate the account will bill $4 million.
Zubi Advertising Makes the Grade for Mobil
ATLANTA--Zubi Advertising in Miami has been named Hispanic agency of record for Mobil. The shop will provide advertising for Hispanic marketing efforts. Billings are estimated at $5 million. Duties will include advertising for Mobil's 7,000-plus retail locations and gasoline and oil products, as well as community outreach programs. Incumbent Ornelas & Associates in Dallas did not pitch.
Hornets, Sting Agree on The Martin Agency
ATLANTA--The Martin Agency's creative-only office in Charlotte, N.C., has been chosen to handle the advertising of the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA and the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA. Billings are estimated at $1 million. Martin, based in Richmond, Va., edged Henderson Advertising and an undisclosed shop.
Atlantis Resort & Casino Bows Campaign
LOS ANGELES--Ground Zero, Santa Monica, Calif., has created a two-minute TV spot for Atlantis Resort & Casino that breaks tonight on prime-time programming in New York, Philadelphia and South Florida. The agency won the Sun International Resorts Bahamian property's $8 million account in April.
