Infiniti Takes Aim at Younger Buyers
LOS ANGELES--TBWA Chiat/Day breaks a $40 million campaign for Infiniti's new G20 sedan this weekend that takes aim at well-to-do twentysomethings. "The whole intent ... is to attract younger buyers," said John Rinek, director of marketing communications for the Gardena, Calif.-based luxury unit of Nissan North America. Several of the spots from the agency's Venice, Calif., office give answers and then pose a question. "Satin sheets. A body massage. Fine wine. The new Infiniti G20. What are things that soothe you?" says one spot.

TeleVest, New York, has picked up additional media buying duties from Paramount Pictures, sources said. The agency, which handles national buying for Paramount, will now add spot buying duties for feature films in select markets. Billings are estimated at $30-35 million. Young & Rubicam in New York had handled spot buying since December 1996. ... Ogilvy & Mather Direct in Los Angeles has picked up duties for WMC Mortgage. Billings are estimated at $20 million. ... Swirl in San Francisco has been hired by Skyy Vodka, also in San Francisco, to create a new corporate Web site.

The National Mushroom Council in Roseville, Calif., is contacting agencies for a review of its estimated $1-3 million ad account, sources said. The company's new president, Bart Minor, former director of marketing for the California Prune Board, is spearheading the effort, said sources. The incumbent is J. Donaghue and Co., San Francisco, which created the council's first TV campaign last summer. ... EarthLink Network, Pasadena, Calif., has selected five California finalists in its review: Citron Haligman Bedecarrƒ, San Francisco; BBDO West and Mendelsohn/Zien, both Los Angeles; Ground Zero, Santa Monica; and Team One Advertising, El Segundo. Select Resources International in Los Angeles is conducting the review.
Chiat's Feldman Moves to Kowloon Wholesale
LOS ANGELES--Joe Feldman, formerly senior planner at TBWA Chiat/Day in Venice, Calif., has joined Kowloon Wholesale Seafood Co. as planning director. Kowloon, a creative boutique that handles Jack In The Box, was established by former Chiat/Day creative director Dick Sittig.
WPP/Asatsu Venture May Expand Mindshare
NEW YORK--London-based WPP Group's strategic alliance with the merged Asatsu will include looking at a joint venture between the two groups, which may result in an expansion of WPP media buying unit Mindshare in Japan, sources said. Mindshare was melded from WPP's two global agency networks, Ogilvy & Mather and J. Walter Thompson. This follows last week's merger of Japanese agencies Asatsu and Dai Ichi Kikaku, which owns a 60% stake in Venice, Calif.-based agency Kovel Kresser & Partners. According to sources, WPP will take a 20% stake in the new Asatsu, while Asatsu's stake in WPP will be 3-4%.
