- Mediators, Unions to Meet on Actors' Strike LOS ANGELES--A meeting has been set for June 13 and 14 between federal mediators and the unions representing commercial actors. Representatives from the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Association of National Advertisers, and the American Association of Advertising Agencies will meet in New York next week to seek a possible settlement on the month-long strike. - Another Contender Emerges in Citibank Contest NEW YORK--Bartle Bogle Hegarty is preparing to pitch Citibank's estimated $150-170 million U.S. account along with seven others: New York shops Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, Merkley Newman Harty, McCann-Erickson Worldwide, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners and incumbent Young & Rubicam; Fallon in Minneapolis; and TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York, Playa del Rey, Calif., and San Francisco, sources said. Citibank global marketing chief Anne MacDonald is said to be considering several options, including dividing the business by agency expertise. - Showtime Shops $30 Mil. in Media NEW YORK--Showtime Networks, a division of Viacom, is looking for an agency to handle its estimated $30 million media account. Len Fogge, executive vice president of creative and marketing, confirmed that a review would begin this week. The Media Edge, Young & Rubicam's media-services arm, is the incumbent, and sources said it had been invited to defend. Showtime's creative account will remain at The Red Group, its in-house shop. Showtime spent $28 million in media last year, according to Competitive Media Reporting. - Srere Returns to Y&R Advertising NEW YORK--Linda Srere has returned to the advertising group of Young & Rubicam in a new role: president and chief client officer. Advertising CEO Ed Vick announced her expected return [Adweek, May 29] in a memo to his staff. "She'll lead us in developing even better ways to help us help our clients to beat the crap out of their competitors," Vick wrote. Srere was chief client officer of Y&R Inc. - Rothschild Joins Della Femina/Jeary NEW YORK--Della Femina/Jeary & Partners has hired Diane Rothschild, who, with fellow Doyle Dane Bernbach expatriate Roy Grace, formed Grace & Rothschild in 1986, and has taken on 11 other employees and the agency's remaining accounts. Rothschild, 51, becomes a partner and executive co-creative director with chairman and partner Jerry Della Femina, 60. Michael Jeary, 52, is partner and COO. The shop will be renamed Della Femina Rothschild Jeary and Partners. Since G&R in March lost its biggest client, Land Rover, and its estimated $30-40 million in billings, there was speculation the shop would seek a partner [Adweek, May 1]. Rothschild said Grace, 64, is "taking a break" from advertising. - Daily Deal Looks at 5 The Daily Deal is considering five New York agencies to handle creative and media duties: Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Dweck!, M&C Saatchi, Hampel/Stefanides and Doremus. Sources pegged the account at $5-10 million. Previous advertising was handled on a project basis.
