DALLAS--Online home furnishings retailer Living.com in Austin, Texas, has chosen three agencies to make final presentations in the bid to launch the company's e-commerce business in July. They are: Leo Burnett, Chicago; McCann-Erickson Southwest, Houston; and The Richards Group, Dallas. Additionally, a spokesperson said the size of the account has been expanded from a $5 million print-only campaign to a $20 million multimedia effort.
Mazda Hires Ford Marketing Exec
DETROIT--Mazda North American Operations is expected to appoint Ford Motor Co. corporate advertising director Kristen Simmons as group manager of brand strategy and communications. Simmons will replace Deborah Wahl, who left Mazda this month to become marketing communications manager at Ford's Lincoln-Mercury division. Simmons' first priority at Mazda is the ad launch of the new MPV minivan. Doner, Southfield, Mich., is Mazda's national agency.
Shops Line Up for Deere
CHICAGO--Leo Burnett and Foote, Cone & Belding, both here, and The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., are among seven shops in the hunt for John Deere's $25 million commercial and consumer division account. The Raleigh, N.C., unit split with Publicis & Hal Riney, Chicago.
Lincoln to Launch $70 Mil. Effort
DETROIT--Lincoln-Mercury will launch the $70 million campaign for its luxury LS sedan with a new tagline. "Lincoln. American luxury" will replace "What a luxury car should be" in the television and print campaign from Y&R Advertising, San Francisco, said Deborah Wahl, Lincoln marketing communications manager.
More DuPont for Doner
DETROIT--DuPont has selected Doner to handle its $3-5 million ad and promotions account for its two Nylon apparel brands: Tactel and Supplex. The Southfield, Mich., agency already handles the company's Comforel, CoolMax, Thermolite and Supriva brands.
Johnnie Walker Orders BBH
NEW YORK--Johnnie Walker scotch has moved global creative duties from Leo Burnett, Chicago, to Bartle Bogle Hegarty. A representative at BBH said creative duties will be shared by both the London and New York offices. Estimated billings are $48 million.
Yellow Freight Seeks Shop
CHICAGO--Yellow Freight System, Overland Park, Kan., has begun contacting agencies in the Midwest, Southwest and Southeast about its ad account. Officials with Select Resources, the Los Angeles consultant handling the review, declined to name contenders but said eight to ten shops were being considered. Incumbent NKH&W, Kansas City, Mo., is not participating. The client spent $2 million on ads last year, per Competitive Media Reporting, but sources said billings could grow significantly.
