Albuquerque Shop Resigns Olds Accounts DETROIT--A recently formed Albuquerque, N.M.-based automotive retail agency has resigned approximately $10 million in business for General Motors Oldsmobile dealers in three markets. The Alliance for Automotive Marketing, owned by The MacManus Group holding company, will phase out its relationship with Olds dealers in Detroit, St. Louis and Phoenix. Alliance managing director Jay Wilson said resigning the Olds business will help focus the agency's strategic direction while handling new markets picked up in the recent Pontiac-GMC reviews. Alliance was formed in January when D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles' Detroit Automotive Retail Team merged with J. Wilson & Associates, a GM retail agency in Albuquerque. The Olds business will probably be moved to one of the client's preferred agencies without a review, according to officials. GSD&M Previews Power Computing Campaign DALLAS--GSD&M, Austin, Texas, previewed its first work for Power Computing at the Macworld Expo in Boston last week. Print ads position Power Computing's products against more established rivals with the tagline, "Beat the machine." Copy persuades readers to use a computer that puts them in control: "It is not your god. Do not worship it. Do not obey it. Do not fear it. Master it. It is your slave." A media schedule was not available at press time. GSD&M edged out The Richards Group, Dallas, for the $15 million account last month. Lottery Approves Graham's Casino Client NEW ORLEANS--A divided Louisiana Lottery Board has given its media agency, The Graham Group, permission to work for a Western Louisiana casino. After voting 5-3 to allow the Lafayette, La., shop to work for the unnamed casino, board members warned the $5 million annual contract would be terminated if a decline in performance is detected. The agency assured the board it would not use lottery information, demographics or confidential data to help the casino. McIlhenny Assigns Tabasco Promo Work CHICAGO--McIlhenny Co., Avery Island, La., named Kragie/Newell, Des Moines, Iowa, to handle a promotional partnership linking Tabasco pepper sauce and the NASCAR race circuit. The program begins with a Tabasco-NASCAR cookbook promotion in January. Kragie/Newell's Atlanta office will oversee the effort. DDB Needham in Dallas is Tabasco's creative agency. Publicis/Bloom Is on Cresta Awards Shortlist DALLAS--Publicis/Bloom here is a finalist in the 5th annual Cresta Awards, which are presented by Creative Standards International and the International Advertising Association. P/B was cited in the U.S. TV category for its Cellular One advertising, as well as for its Dallas Museum of Art work in the print competition. Winners will be announced in September.
