Verizon Narrows Search to Seven Finalists
ATLANTA—The review for the Northwest marketing account of Verizon Wireless has narrowed to seven finalists. Joining incumbent Campbell Mithun, Minneapolis, in a final round of presentations are AKQA and GMO/Hill, Holliday, both in San Francisco; Barkley Evergreen & Partners, Kansas City, Mo., Euro RSCG Tatham, Chicago, Fogarty Klein Monroe, Houston, and Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, according to Wanamaker consultant Ken Bowes, who is conducting the review for the Seattle-based client. A decision is expected by the end of March.
Deutsch/LA Wins DirecTV Direct Marketing
LOS ANGELES—Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif., lead agency for digital television provider DirecTV, has been awarded the client's direct marketing business without a formal review. Billings were undisclosed. The work includes direct sales and acquisition efforts. The account was previously handled by several agencies on a project basis. DirecTV is based in El Segundo, Calif.
Palace Entertainment Launches Creative Review
LOS ANGELES—Palace Entertainment is reviewing the creative portion of its ad account. The budget was undisclosed but is estimated in the low seven figures. The Irvine, Calif.-based amusement park and family fun center chain has spoken to five undisclosed shops and expects to reach a decision soon, said a company representative. Palace has worked with several agencies on a project basis after ending its relationship with Mendel sohn/Zien, Los Angeles, last year. It could not be determined if Palace is holding a separate media review.
Woods Reprises Juggling Act for Nike
LOS ANGELES—Tiger Woods continues his golf ball juggling act in a new ad for Nike Golf. Created by the same team that developed the original "Hacky Sack" ad, including Joe Pytka of Pytka Productions and longtime Nike ad agency Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Ore., the TV spot features Woods maneuvering a Nike Tour Accuracy TW golf ball between a wedge in his right hand and one in his left before smacking it with a one-handed swing.
Toshiba America Business Solutions, Irvine, Calif., launched a $10 million TV, radio and print campaign promoting the office products from its Electronic Imaging Division. Created by DGWB, Santa Ana, Calif., ads feature the new tagline "Don't copy. Lead." ... El Pollo Loco, Irvine, broke a campaign tagged "Pass the pollo." Consisting of TV and radio ads, the work from Dailey & Associates, West Hollywood, Calif., marks a shift from a celebration of food at the restaurant chain to the food itself.
Matthews/Mark, San Diego, was hired to handle advertising, public relations, trade-show promotions and media planning for Jabra Corp., a provider of hands-free communication products for mobile consumers. ... MedTrak Electronics selected Kalis & Savage, Pacific Palisades, Calif., to launch a new line of personal electronic health and security monitoring services. The budget is approximately $5 million.
