Arnold Named to Target Agency Team

BOSTON—Arnold Communications last week was hired for a substantial branding project by Target Corp. of Minneapolis for the client's Marshall Field's department stores as well as its Dayton's and Hudson's brands. The assignment had been expected [Adweek, Sept. 11]. Haworth Marketing & Media, Minneapolis, retains all media buying chores for Target properties.

M/W May Face Conflicts for L.L. Bean

BOSTON—Three finalists have emerged in the review for catalog retailer L.L. Bean's $15-20 million advertising account. FCB, New York, and Minneapolis agencies Carmichael Lynch and Martin/Williams advanced. The Freeport, Maine, client parted with incumbent Mullen, Wenham, Mass., this summer. Martin/Williams works for retailers Target Corp. and Gander Mountain, which could pose conflicts with L.L. Bean. An L.L. Bean representative declined to address conflict issues; Martin/Williams officials declined comment.

Havas Buys Vickers & Benson

BOSTON—Havas Advertising last week purchased Vickers & Benson, a Toronto agency with interactive and direct marketing capabilities and a presence in Chicago. Terms were not disclosed; analysts estimated the sale price in the $35-45 million range. The 225-person Vickers & Benson will keep its name and be run as part of the French conglomerate's Campus network. Campus will be led by Arnold Communications, Boston, once Havas' $2.1 billion stock purchase of Arnold parent Snyder Communications is completed. A Havas spokeswoman said the Snyder deal is expected to close Sept. 25.

Worlds.com Names Messner to Board

BOSTON—Worlds.com, a three dimensional entertainment portal, has named Tom Messner, a founding partner at Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer Euro/RSCG, New York, to its board of directors. Messner is expected to assist the Old Greenwich, Conn., company as it expands its content and advertising initiatives. He replaces Michael Scharff, who had resigned.

BOSTON—Omnicom-owned Brodeur Worldwide here has formed exclusive partnerships with four communications agencies in Asia: Prisma Public Relations in Jakarta, Indonesia; Nine East in Bangkok, Thailand; Qui Vive Inc. in Manila, Philippines; and Binakomm PR in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Equity was not exchanged. ... Lewis PR, London, one of Europe's top 10 high tech PR agencies, has opened a full-service office in Newton, Mass. ... Mullen, Wenham, Mass., has developed a national public relations campaign to introduce Gorton's Skillet Fillets.

McCann, Sirkin Join Adweek in New England

BOSTON—Sara McCann has joined the New England staff of Adweek as account manager. She had been a retail sales representative with the daily Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Mass., a unit of the South of Boston Media Group. Farah Sirkin has joined as sales assistant. Both are based in Adweek's office here.
