Grand Bay Hotels Searches for National Shop
LOS ANGELES--Grand Bay Hotels & Resorts in Phoenix is reviewing its estimated $10 million account. Todd Middleton, president of The Middleton Group, the New York marketing consultancy conducting the search, said the winning agency will create the client's first national ad campaign. The client initially contacted about 10 agencies, and is now talking with a "select" list of shops on both coasts about the creative-only business, Middleton said. Grand Bay, created by the merger of Carefree Resorts and Grand Bay Hotels, currently uses a variety of local shops.

Publicis to Close Los Angeles Office
LOS ANGELES--After operating here for two decades, Publicis (formerly EvansGroup) will pull out of the Los Angeles market next month, officials at the agency's Salt Lake City headquarters said last week. The six-person office has scaled back operations over the past two years, said Dave Thomas, president of Publicis' Salt Lake City office, adding that it will now be more efficient to handle its few accounts from "more successful" offices. Tom Weinberg, executive vice president in L.A., will leave the agency in August to pursue other interests, Thomas said. The shop chose not to defend the Beverly Hills Visitors Bureau and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center accounts after they were put into review. The office's remaining accounts will be serviced out of San Francisco or Salt Lake City, Thomas said.

Reviews Roundup ... Monterey Fishes for Shop
The Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monterey, Calif., is holding a review for its estimated $1-2 million ad account. Contenders include TBWA Chiat/Day's San Francisco office (its first major pitch since entering the market); Butler, Shine & Stern, Sausalito, Calif.; and Citron Haligman Bedecarrƒ and Goldberg Moser O'Neill, both San Francisco. A decision is expected by the end of August. ... Finalists in the Jenny Craig review are WongDoody, Seattle and Santa Monica, Calif.; The Richards Group, Dallas; and Carat ICG, Los Angeles; as well as incumbents Suissa Miller and Western International Media, both in Los Angeles.

Levi's Goldstein Set to Retire
SAN FRANCISCO--Steve Goldstein, vice president of marketing and research at Levi Strauss & Co., said last week he will retire Aug. 1 after almost two decades with the company. Goldstein is credited with launching Levi's Dockers brand, and was a key figure in the review for Levi's jeans business, which was won by TBWA Chiat/Day. Sources said a "major management reorganization" is under way at Levi's. The client declined to comment.
