Richards Shares 4A's Prize With BBDO





DALLAS--The American Association of Advertising Agencies last Thursday awarded its A+ Creative Award for shops billing more than $30 million to two agencies: The Richards Group of Dallas and BBDO in New York. The decision marked the first time the seven-year-old award will be shared by two agencies and the first time a Southwest entrant has won. 'I think it says a lot about the way the industry has broadened the circle beyond New York shops,' Richards Group founder and principal Stan Richards said. 'We're honored.' For the third straight year, DeVito/Verdi, New York, won in the category of agencies with billings up to $30 million.





Publicis/Bloom Headhunter Seeks Senior CD





DALLAS--A headhunter for Publicis/Bloom here is contacting candidates in Dallas and possibly elsewhere for a senior-level creative director position at the shop, according to sources. It was unclear how the post would be structured under co-chairmen Seth Werner and Steve Price. Price declined comment on whether the shop was searching for a top-level creative, but said 'it's no secret we're looking for people in creative.'





3 More Shops Surface in Pearle Review





DALLAS--Publicis/Bloom and Gotham, both New York, and J. Walter Thompson, Detroit, are among the first-round shops under consideration for the $25 million Pearle Vision Centers account, sources said last week. The agencies join previously identified contenders DDB Needham Dallas, Wyse Advertising in Cleveland and W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich. An unspecified number of finalists will be chosen after capabilities visits. A decision is expected before July.





Rives Carlberg Resigns Bruce Foods Account





DALLAS--Rives Carlberg, Houston, has resigned its estimated $1-2 million account for New Iberia, La.-based Bruce Foods' Casa Fiesta line. Rives' public relations manager Ricki Rosenberg confirmed the agency's decision, but declined further comment.





Italia/Gal Restructures Into 2 Operations





LOS ANGELES--Carmen Italia and Italia/Gal partner Ken Gal have agreed to end their formal partnership and restructure their offices as separate corporations. The Los Angeles office will still be known as Italia/Gal, while the Chicago and Dallas units will be rechristened Italia Advertising. The split will not affect the staff at any of the offices or how accounts are serviced, the executives said.





Brothers & Co. Lands Plano Assignments





DALLAS--Brothers & Co., Tulsa, Okla., was named agency of record for Plano Molding Co.'s outdoor productions division, based in Plano, Ill. Plano manufactures tackle boxes and other accessories for the hunting and fishing industry. Brothers gained the account after a review among undisclosed agencies.
