2 Shops Left in Vanguard's $40-50 Mil. ReviewNEW YORK—Two New York shops are pitching the estimated $40-50 million account of The Vanguard Group: Deutsch and Young & Rubicam, sources said. Both agencies were scheduled to pitch last Friday, according to sources. A third agency, DDB in New York, has been cut, said sources. Lowe Lintas Cuts 20-30 StaffersNEW YORK—Lowe Lintas & Partners has laid off 20-30 staffers in New York, as it prepares for the loss of its BK account, sources said. At its peak, about 60 people worked on the business. BK is reviewing the account [see below], and Lowe Lintas was eliminated last month. Burger King Tests for $400 Mil. AccountNEW YORK—Burger King has entered into the testing phase of the review for its $400 million creative account, which is down to New York-based shops Grey Worldwide and McCann-Erickson, and Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis. Each finalist has created at least one campaign for the Whopper that will undergo testing, sources said. The spots will be incorporated into a reel showcasing different brands to see if the BK work stands out, said sources. Tommy Hilfiger Consolidates $80 Mil. Biz at DeutschNEW YORK—Tommy Hilfiger has split with incumbent Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners to consolidate its ad duties, worth an estimated $80 million, at Deutsch, the client confirmed. Deutsch already handled an estimated $50 million of the business, including men's and women's sportswear; it now picks up $30 million in assignments, including jeans and kidswear. A Tommy Hilfiger representative said the split with Kirshenbaum was a mutual decision.DiMassimo Lays Off 20 Percent of StaffNEW YORK—DiMassimo Brand Advertising has laid off 19 of its 96 staffers within the last six weeks, agency CEO Mark DiMassimo confirmed. He attributed the layoffs to "general restructuring" and "significant cutbacks" by client Buyandhold.com, which had billings of $20 million. Lowe Exec Lands at American Stock ExchangeNEW YORK—Lauren Fisher, a former evp, group account director at Lowe Lintas & Partners in New York, has landed a senior marketing role at the American Stock Exchange in New York, according to sources. Fisher arrives in the final stages of an agency review, with New York-based shops DDB Worldwide and Masius awaiting a selection, sources said. Billings are estimated at $15-20 million.12 Emerge in Race for $20-30 Mil. in Mini DutiesNEW YORK—Twelve agencies are contending for the estimated $20-30 million account for BMW's new compact car, the Mini, which is launching in the U.S. in 2002, sources said. The agencies include New York-based shops Bouchez Kent + Co., DiMassimo Brand Advertising, Margeotes|Fertitta + Partners, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, Wieden + Kennedy, and Wolf Group; Los Angeles agencies Suissa Miller, Asher/Gal & Partners and WongDoody; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston; and San Francisco shops Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and Citron Haligman Bedecarré.
