Continental Pulls Ayer Ads, Review Proceeds
DALLAS-Continental Airlines in Houston last week agreed to pull a humorous ad campaign developed by N.W. Ayer & Partners, New York, designed to lure New Yorkers to New Jersey’s Newark Airport. New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani was preparing to mount a boycott of the carrier, saying the ads were offensive to New York. N.W. Ayer was awarded the New York-only project from Continental in April. Separately, the airline was completing capabilities presentations from eight shops for the possible consolidation of its $50 million global advertising account.
