NATIONWIDE IN REVIEW; KETCHUM TO DEFEND
NEW YORK-Nationwide Insurance Enterprise, known for its longtime advertising theme, "Nationwide is on your side," has put its estimated $22 million ad account in review, sources said last week. Consultancy Achenbaum Bogda Associates in New York has contacted several undisclosed shops on behalf of the Columbus, Ohio, client. Incumbent Ketchum Advertising in Pittsburgh is expected to defend the business, sources said.
MCCANN WINS $40-50 MIL. ACUVUE REVIEW
NEW YORK-McCann-Erickson has been awarded the estimated $40-50 million account of Johnson & Johnson's Vistakon unit, which markets Acuvue contact lenses. Jeff Leebaw, a representative for J&J, said McCann had been picked for Vistakon's "global assignment" due to the "quality" of its presentation. McCann's New York office defeated incumbent Ammirati Puris Lintas and J&J roster shop Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide, both in New York. McCann could not be reached for comment.
ALAMO SEARCH DOWN TO 4 SHOPS
ATLANTA-The field of agencies pitching the $20 million Alamo Rent A Car account has been narrowed to four, sources said. They are: McCann-Erickson, Atlanta; DDB Needham, Dallas; and Lowe & Partners/SMS and Foote, Cone & Belding, both in New York.
TRAVELERS GROUP NARROWS TO 2 FINALISTS
NEW YORK-Travelers Group has selected two finalists for its estimated $15 million corporate and insurance ad accounts. Sources identified the shops as Merkley Newman Harty and McCann-Erickson, both in New York.
LEAP TO WIN DAEWOO'S NATIONAL ACCOUNT
LOS ANGELES-Daewoo Motor America is expected to award a national branding assignment to The Leap Partnership in Chicago after an agency search involving the four shops that handle the client's regional accounts, including Ground Zero, Santa Monica, Calif.; Korey Kay & Partners, New York; and Tausche Martin Lonsdorf, Atlanta. Billings are undisclosed.
FOOT LOCKER REVIEW STALLED INDEFINITELY
NEW YORK-Foot Locker's search for a new agency to handle its estimated $40 million ad account has been put on hold. Sources said the New York-based client will revisit the evaluation after hiring a senior marketing executive to oversee the process. Bates USA and Zenith Media, both New York, resigned the account this summer.
J.P. MORGAN CORPORATE CONTENDERS EMERGE
NEW YORK-J.P. Morgan here is holding meetings with four New York agencies for its 1998 corporate image campaign, sources said. They are: N.W. Ayer & Partners, J. Walter Thompson, Hampel/Stefanides and Angotti, Thomas, Hedge. The Advertising Agency Register is conducting the review. Sources have estimated the budget at $15 million. The Colligan Group here is the incumbent.
