Rawlings Joins Pizza Hut, Sets Agency Briefings

DALLAS--Former DDB Needham Dallas chairman and chief executive officer Mike Rawlings last week was named president and chief concept officer of Addison, Texas-based Pizza Hut five months after resigning his post at the agency. Rawlings said he plans to meet with Pizza Hut's marketing staffers as well as executives at lead agency BBDO, New York, and promotions shop TLPartnership, Dallas, in the next two weeks. Asked if any lead agency changes were planned, given reports of a strained relationship between Pizza Hut and BBDO (Adweek, April 14), Rawlings said, 'I don't know enough about the situation to comment on any of that yet. I will say that BBDO has been a good agency partner for a long time, and they have done good work.' Rawlings acknowledged that reversing a decrease in sales would 'obviously be a top priority.' The company's same-store sales were down 4 percent in 1996.
