Sherwood Named DMB&B's Global GM Head
DETROIT--Patrick Sherwood was appointed executive vice president, worldwide account director of the General Motors account at D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Troy, Mich. He was also named to the DMB&B Worldwide Board of Directors. Sherwood will continue as managing director of the Troy office, which is the national agency for GM's Cadillac division and the Pontiac portion of the Pontiac-GMC division.
FCB Lays Off 40, Plans to 'Reinvest Resources'
CHICAGO--Foote, Cone & Belding here trimmed its staff by about 6 percent, laying off 40 employees. Office president Brian Williams said the layoffs cut across all departments and levels, and said they were needed to fund a "reinvestment of resources" at the office, including building direct and promotional staffs. The office recently acquired database/direct agency CM Partners in Rolling Meadows, Ill. Williams said other acquisitions are being contemplated.
Dairy Considers Agencies to Replace Burnett
CHICAGO--Dairy Management Inc. said it is beginning informal talks with several undisclosed agencies about creative duties on its $50 million cheese account, resigned by Leo Burnett [Adweek, Jan. 11]. A short list of contenders, drawn up by the end of February, will make capabilities presentations in March. TN Media, New York, continues as the media buying agency.
Lois/EJL Loses Alberto-Culver Media
CHICAGO--Officials at Lois/EJL here said they do not expect any layoffs despite losing the $25 million Alberto-Culver Co. media buying business. Melrose Park, Ill.-based Culver last week consolidated media duties at Carat/MBS in New York. Lois will remain on Culver's creative roster along with Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, and Avertt, Free & Ginsberg, New York, which last week was handed creative responsibilities for Alberto VO5 hair care products.

CHICAGO--Select Comfort Corp., Minneapolis, has narrowed its search for a creative shop for its $10 million retail ad account to hometown agencies Kruskopf Olson and Campbell Mithun Esty, sources said.
Don Coleman Picks Up Miller Lite
CHICAGO--Miller Brewing assigned African American advertising duties on Miller Lite to Don Coleman Advertising in Detroit. Miller previously worked with the FraserSmith Group, New York, on the brand.
Publicis & Hal Riney Rides Subway Abroad
CHICAGO--Publicis & Hal Riney here was named international agency for Subway Restaurants, which it has handled domestically for seven years. Brad Back was promoted to senior vice president, worldwide account director on the brand. It is the shop's first global account since it was acquired by Publicis last year.
