Bill Holland, president of Bates Southwest, this month assumed the additional title of chief executive officer.
Simultaneously, chairman and former chief executive Jerry Kerr has stepped back from daily management of the Houston agency.
Holland joined Bates Southwest last July as president under a plan to gradually create a successor for Kerr. He previously served as chief executive officerof Fellers Marketing and Advertising's five-office network.
Holland said his duties have expandedto include strategic planning and agency management, in addition to heading the agency's core advertising activities.
"I've just got more responsibility or more blame depending on what's going on," Holland said.
"The future of Bates Southwest is in the excellent management hands of Bill Holland," said Kerr in a statement. "His enthusiastic style has been embraced by the entire agency."
