To mark the opening of its 300th hotel nationwide, Washington, D.C.-based Courtyard by Marriott has signed an icon for whom 300 was also an important number.

Ex-New York Yankee Don Mattingly was drafted for a Courtyard promotion that plugs the 13-year-old hotel chain’s latest opening, as well as provides a benefit for The Children’s Health Fund for homeless and disadvantaged youth.

Mattingly appeared with Courtyard officials last week to christen the new Fossil Creek Courtyard in Fort Worth, Texas.

In keeping with a baseball theme, Courtyard said a donation to the Children’s Health Fund will be made at season’s end based on the top batting average in the major leagues.
