Carty Hires Blocklin To Run Business Development
BOSTON--A top Young & Rubicam executive with a proven track record for winning new business is joining Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in an effort to raise the agency's global profile.
June Blocklin, 39, worldwide client services director at Y&R in New York, joins the Boston agency as executive vice president of business development. She worked at Y&R for the past three years, most recently managing its $400 million AT&T global account.
Prior to joining Y&R, Blocklin served as international marketing director at Snapple Beverage Corp. and spent 11 years at Ogilvy & Mather in New York.
Blocklin, who reports to executive vice president Brian Carty, said she was attracted to both the shop's people and its business model. "They're humble, ambitious, very hungry guys. That's very seductive," she said. "[The] whole notion of taking the best of both the consulting and ad agency business and blending them together is very intriguing. I don't see anyone in the industry doing this."
While Hill Holliday's new business gains have largely come from existing clients, Blocklin is expected to re-energize the pitch process. During her tenure at Y&R, the agency added more than $1 billion in billings, including the consolidated Citibank account.
Blocklin will have no direct client responsibility at Hill, Holliday. One observer speculated that her arrival could help secure the shop's relationship with a key client. Fidelity, billing in excess of $100 million, recently added former AT&T consumers markets chief Gail McGovern to its management ranks.
Blocklin nixed that idea, calling the dual moves a "funny coincidence."
