It takes extra effort to live beyond one’s means when those means are substantial. And yet, many upper-income Americans rise to the challenge. People with lower incomes are, of course, more likely to be over their heads in debt—a fact confirmed by a report from the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. But as you can see in the chart, the phenomenon is scarcely unheard of among those in the poll’s top income bracket.
