WCVB-TV, Boston’s ABC affiliate, became the first station in New England to broadcast a high-definition television signal last Thursday when it introduced its new channel, WCVB-DT.
The station made its debut at the Boston Museum of Science, which hosted several HDTV sets showing a live digital feed of John Glenn’s much-heralded return to space.
Although no ads ran during the launch, TV executives predict it’s just a matter of time until advertisers make digital commercials.
How many homes were actually able to view the new programming? WCVB representative Caroline Waddel admitted it was “hard to tell.
